New state funding could mean more resources for Minnesotans living with dementia — and the family members who care for them.
The Minnesota Board on Aging is awarding nearly 750,000 dollars to eight organizations for dementia awareness, early diagnosis and caregiver support.
The funding includes programs serving northern Minnesota, including a new community choir for people with dementia and their caregivers in the Brainerd area.
For families in northwest Minnesota, the grants highlight the growing focus on helping caregivers recognize memory loss early and connect with support. The state says about 120-thousand Minnesotans over age 65 have Alzheimer’s disease.
