The city of Crookston is getting nearly $500,000 in state funding to help make way for future development at the former Tri-Valley building.
The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development awarded the city $495,000 dollars for demolition of the building, located on a three-quarter-acre site historically used for offices and commercial space. The property could eventually be redeveloped into a three-story, mixed-use building, with retail businesses on the first floor and housing on the upper levels. The city plans to secure the funding through a general obligation tax-abatement bond.
The Crookston project is one of seven statewide receiving more than two million dollars in combined redevelopment grants and demolition loans. The state says those projects are expected to create or retain 151 jobs, increase local tax bases by more than 1.1 million dollars, and leverage more than 92 million dollars in private investment.
