By Graham Scher – R & J Broadcasting | November 14, 2025

Warroad, MINN. – Warroad City Council convened in regular session Monday Nov. 10 at the Warroad City Building with Mayor Tom Goldsmith presiding. A motion was approved after discussion to raise rates for certain utility bills in 2026 including a 2% increase on water rates, and a 2% increase on sewer rates. Mayor Goldsmith commented on why bills are going up on water and sewer.

Goldsmith was also asked about a “new” rate that will be increasing in 2026 and significantly higher than the other increases.

KQ92 and KRWB will continue to follow Warroad City Council and provide updates from their next meeting Monday, November 24th.

Opening Weekend Firearms Deer Harvest Strong

With Minnesota Deer Firearm Season continuing this week and through next week in Northern Minnesota, the DNR provided some numbers for what the hunting season has looked like thus far through opening weekend and the first full week.

Minnesota hunters harvested nearly 82,000 deer statewide during the opening weekend of the firearms season.

The pace is expected to surpass 2023 numbers and on pace to approach last year’s total of 170,679 deer. So far, 59% of the harvested deer have been adult males, while 29% are adult females. The remainder of deer includes juvenile deer of both male and female.

Klobuchar Wraps Tour in Northern Minnesota

Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar has officially wrapped up her tour of all 87 counties across the state — finishing her journey in Koochiching County.

Her stops included Rainy Lake Medical Center and Minnesota North College–Rainy River, where she toured classrooms, met with students, and spoke with local community members.

Klobuchar reflected on her Iron Range roots, recalling her grandfather’s days mining ore in Ely, and emphasized the importance of preparing students for the jobs of the future — not just those of the past.

During her visit, she also discussed her ongoing efforts to strengthen U.S.–Canada relations, an issue deeply tied to northern Minnesota’s border economy.

And while it was a chilly stop on her statewide tour, Klobuchar said she came prepared — and even got to enjoy one special northern sight.

Senator Klobuchar’s visit marked a symbolic finish to her annual 87-county tour — ending where Minnesota meets Canada, right here in International Falls.
