Gallery Exhibit: Portrayals in Paper by Nikki Besser

It’s the last chance to enter the Warroad RiverPlace gallery giveaway for an original paper quilling artwork created by featured artist Nikki Besser. 

The piece is part of the current exhibit, “Portrayals in Paper: Tales of Overcoming,” which highlights intricate designs made from carefully shaped and layered paper.

To enter, simply stop by the Warroad RiverPlace gallery, explore the exhibit, and fill out a comment card for your chance to win. Admission is free, and the gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Entries close when the exhibit ends this Saturday, so be sure to visit before it’s gone.

Senators Klobuchar and Smith Introduce Resolution Honoring Fallen Minnesota Master Sergeant Nicole Amore

U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith have introduced a resolution honoring Army Reserve Master Sergeant Nicole Amor of White Bear Lake, Minnesota.

Amor, 39, was killed March 1st in Port Shuaiba, Kuwait, during an unmanned aircraft attack while deployed with the 103rd Sustainment Command. Five other service members were also killed in the attack.

Lawmakers say Amor served nearly 20 years with distinction and was posthumously promoted to Master Sergeant.

The resolution honors her service and extends condolences to her family, including her husband and children, and others affected by the attack.

Minnesota DNR Offering Spring Webinars

Minnesota’s Department of Natural Resources is offering a new lineup of free spring webinars as part of its Outdoor Skills and Stewardship Series.

Sessions begin March 25 with a look at the 75th anniversary of wildlife management areas, followed by topics including turkey hunting on April 8 and native fish on April 22. Additional webinars on walleye and yellow bass are scheduled through May.

The live events are held every other Wednesday at noon and require pre-registration. Recordings will also be available online.

Lake of the Woods School Board New Time

Baudette, Minn — The Lake of the Woods School Board is making a slight change to its regular schedule.

The board’s next meeting will be held Monday, March 23rd at a new start time of 6:45 p.m., instead of the usual 7 o’clock. The meeting will take place in the ITV Room at the school.

Ahead of the regular session, a working meeting is expected to begin earlier in the evening still at 6pm. On the agenda, board members will review district finances, approve past meeting minutes, and consider personnel items, including spring coaching positions.

Community members are encouraged to attend and stay involved, with opportunities for public comment both in person and in advance.

Again, the Lake of the Woods School Board meets Monday, March 23rd at 6:45 p.m. at the school.

Governor Walz announced Supplemental Budget Plan 

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz announced a supplemental budget plan Tuesday. Governor Walz said his supplemental is responsible, and tackles a number of affordability issues affecting Minnesotans statewide. 

Governor Walz also shared more details on the budget which includes a cut to the tax rate. 

The Minnesota Legislature has until Monday, May 18 to pass legislation as a part of the 2026 Session.
