Boat Accident on Lake of the Woods Saturday 9/13

Authorities responded to reports of a two-boat collision near Rocky Point Resort on Lake of the Woods around 5:00 p.m. Saturday, September 13. According to initial radio traffic, one boat went over the top of another. Crews from Arnison’s Rocky Point launched immediately to assist those involved. Dispatch audio indicated that both were later escorted back to shore.

Early reports suggest that no one was injured. An ambulance was originally dispatched to Rocky Point, but those involved declined medical treatment. Deputies from the Lake of the Woods County Sheriff’s Office were sent to the area to follow up.

Witnesses at Rocky Point said one boat headed back toward Roseau while the other returned to Arnison’s Rocky Point. Despite the severity of the impact, everyone on board was reported safe.

Officials have not yet released additional details about the people involved or whether any citations will be issued. The Lake of the Woods County Sheriff’s Office is expected to provide further information. For more on boating safety, visit the Minnesota DNR Boat and Water Safety Page.

Minnesotans Focused on Health Insurance for 2025

Minnesotans are urged to start thinking about their health insurance for next year. Due to federal cuts and changes, Minnesota Department of Commerce Commissioner Grace Arnold says Minnesotans are facing some tough decisions.

Arnold says 90,000 Minnesotans are looking at higher premium costs for next year, and 19,000 could lose their financial assistance to help pay for their health care costs.

Farm Aid 40 Concert Helped by Teamsters

The tentative agreement between Teamsters Local 320 and the University of Minnesota means the Farm Aid 40 concert will go on this Saturday as scheduled. The strike and picketing has officially ended on all U of M campuses.

The three-year agreement is being sent to Teamsters members for a final vote and ratification. Local 320 president Erik Skoog said, “we also must recognize the solidarity from the Farm Aid performers and event coordinators who refused to cross a Teamster picket line.

Crews were working on the Farm Aid stage at Huntington Bank Stadium this weekend.

Minnesota Deer Archery Season Kicked Off This Weekend

The 2025/2026 Minnesota deer archery season kicked off this weekend, and area hunters are reminded that some hunters will be required to test for CWD . Minnesota DNR Northwest Area Wildlife Supervisor Rob Baden tells us more.

As for what bow hunters can expect to see in terms of deer numbers this year,  Baden says you can expect to see a larger, and younger deer population, and he explains why.
