Roseau School news

A couple of teams from Roseau High School were acknowledged during this week’s Roseau School News segment. Superintendent Tom Jerome talked about the Personal Finance Team Decathlon State Championships that will be held on Thursday in the Twins Cities.

He also recognized the Roseau Knowledge Bowl team and their performance at the recent state tournament.

Spring Update from Roseau County Emergency Management

Roseau County Emergency Management held their Spring Update meeting last week. Sue Grafstrom is the co-director of Roseau County Emergency Management and was the guest on the “Community Conversation” on Monday and gave listeners a run down of what happened.

During the conversation she was asked “Where does Emergency Management Communication start?”

She also said that residents that haven’t already done so can sign up for “Code Red” to get emergency information sent to them. She explains further.

Area teams qualify for Robotics World Championships

The Northern Minnesota Robotics Conference is pleased to announce that several of our member teams will be competing at the upcoming FIRST Robotics World Championship in Houston, TX. The FIRST Robotics Competition World Championships will be getting under way in Houston, Texas this week. On Wednesday, April 16th, teams will be loading in and preparing for the four day long competition which will conclude Saturday night. There are approximately 3,250 H.S. teams worldwide representing 27 countries. About 600 of these teams have qualified for this event by winning or receiving judged awards at regional robotics events
this past winter. These qualifiers will come together to compete at a single event in order to crown a new world champion.

For a number of these teams they will be continuing a rich tradition of excellence for their programs while one team is just beginning their story in the limelight of the world stage. Warroad’s Team 2883 – F.R.E.D. (FIRST Robotics Engineering and Design) will be making their 7th trip to the World Robotics Championships. Team F.R.E.D. qualified for the World tournament at the recent Granite City Regional in St. Cloud, MN.



Roseau Mayor Fabian gives update on city projects

Earlier this week Roseau Mayor Dan Fabian was our guest on “Community Conversation” to give listeners some updates to projects that are happening in the City of Roseau. Fabian says that as soon as the weather turns, things can start to happen.

One of the projects that Mayor Fabian updated listeners on was the status of the project at the Roseau Memorial Arena.

During a recent meeting, Roseau County Historical Society Director Britt Dahl presented and idea for a potential new addition to the city.

Other updates that Mayor Fabian commented on were the Highway 11 project in Roseau, the Highway 89 project south in Roseau and the airport project.

Warroad Fire Department to hold controlled burn next week

There will be a lot of activity on the west side of Warroad beginning this coming Monday April 14th. The Warroad Fire Department, along with several other agencies, will be conducting a controlled burn at the “Triple 7” hotel. Warroad Fire Chief Damian McMillin explains.

McMillin says that the activity that will begin on Monday is something that was put into place last fall.

McMillin also wanted to thank all of the agencies that played in making this happen.

Warroad Area Community Fund opens Spring Grant Round

The Warroad Area Community Fund Advisory Committe has announced the opening of the 2025 Spring Grant Round. Local non-profits and public entities in the Warroad School District can apply for grants ranging from 500 to 5000 dollars. Committee member Brenda Bauman explains.

She went to to tell us about the organizations that have benefitted and still benefit from these grants.

Warroad Native American Education Department update

The Native American Education Department at Warroad School will be making a trip to northeast Minnesota on Thursday as part of what has already been a busy spring schedule. Danielle Smith, Director of the Warroad Native American Education Department was the guest on “Community Conversation” on Wednesday and talked about the trip.

She says that it doesn’t slow down from there.

Warroad Summer Theater auditions to be held next week

The Warroad Summer Theater will be holding auditions for their production of “Matilda the Musical” on April 19th at 10am at Zion Lutheran Church in Warroad. One of the co-directors of the play, Jenee Provance, was on this week’s “Warroad River Place” segment and talked about the auditions

The production, which will take place in late July and early August, will be the first production that Warroad Summer Theater is doing at River Place and Provance talked about who the directors are looking for in the audition process

Roseau School receives grant from Office of Traffic Safety

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety’s Office of Traffic Safety included the Roseau School district in it’s final round of school bus stop arm camera grants. Roseau Superintendent Tom Jerome was on the Roseau School news this morning and said that this is great for the district.

He talked about how he first learned of the grant and how he kept it “on the radar.”

He also said that it took the entire team at the Roseau School to help make this happen.

The Roseau School District was one of 18 school districts and transportation companies that were awarded money in this final round of school bus stop arm camera grants. In total, the Office of Traffic Safety has now awarded more than 15-million dollars in state-funded grants towards school bus stop arm cameras.

Warroad Robotics team qualifies for World championships

This past weekend at the Granite City regional robotics tournament, the Warroad robotics team, also known as “Team FRED” qualified for the World championships that will be held in Houston, Texas next week. Warroad robotics advisor Jeremy Culleton talked about the weekend

Culleton says that Team FRED won the Impact Award this past weekend, which qualified them for the world tournament.

Culleton says that there will be a fundraiser at the end of the week to help Team FRED

Once again that fundraiser will be from 4:30-7:00pm on Friday at Warroad High School.
