Warroad Public Schools, Mar. 19 Precautionary Lockdown Lifted

WARROAD, Minn. – This morning, Warroad Public Schools was placed on a precautionary lockdown after a threat was called into the school. The lockdown began around 8:45 a.m. and was lifted shortly after 10:10 a.m.

The Warroad Police Department, along with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Roseau County Sheriff’s Office, responded immediately. Warroad Police Chief Wade Steinbring led the response.

Steinbring says authorities were able to quickly assess the situation after the threat was reported, and provided more details:

He praised school staff and administration for following safety procedures, and thanked first responders and parents for their cooperation and patience.

Steinbring says the department will review the incident and continue working to keep the community safe:

The lockdown was lifted after authorities determined there was no ongoing threat, and classes resumed as normal.

Minnesota DNR Conservation Prep Program Opens

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is now accepting applications for its Conservation Officer Prep Program. The paid trainee position helps candidates earn their Peace Officer license, with tuition and books covered. Participants train for a career protecting Minnesota’s natural resources and public safety. Applicants must have a two- or four-year degree by June 2026. The deadline to apply is March 31st. Badger School Music Revue this Week

Badger, Minn — Badger School’s music revue “Live From the Living Room” is happening today and Friday at Badger school for their annual Music Revue. Superintendent Dan Carpenter stopped by during Badger School news to tell us more about the event and the theme for the night.

Carpenter also told us what those attending can expect from the theme “Live from the Living Room”

Polaris Profit Sharing for 2025 Received

Roseau, Minn — Since 1954, Polaris Roseau has been giving back to their employees with their profit-sharing bonus checks. Polaris Talent Acquisition Lead Shannon Flynn told us some background on the profit sharing bonuses and how those are calculated between the Polaris leadership team.

Flynn also told us the system that has been in place is unlikely to change, but there are some other cool features of profit sharing that employees should know.

Polaris employees received their profit sharing bonus on Friday March 13th.

Minnesota 9th District Judicial Candidates

The Commission on Judicial Selection announced Monday that three candidates have been nominated to fill two judicial openings in northwest Minnesota, including a current opening in Polk County and an future vacancy in Marshall County.

The Polk County opening became available after Judge Anne Rasmusson was elevated to the Minnesota Court of Appeals, creating an immediate need for a replacement on the bench. In Marshall County, Judge Jeffery Remick is set to retire later this year, prompting the commission to begin the selection process in advance.

The nominees include (left to right) Max Schafer-LaCoursiere, an assistant public defender based in Thief River Falls; Symon Schindler-Syme, who serves as an assistant county attorney in the Beltrami County Attorney’s Office; and Eliza Scott, an assistant county attorney with the Roseau County Attorney’s Office.

The three nominees bring a mix of public defense and prosecution experience, and one of them will ultimately be chosen to serve in each county. The final appointments will be made by the governor in the coming weeks.

Stitch and Swap Event at Warroad Riverplace

A Stitch and Swap will take place this Saturday, March 21 at Warroad RiverPlace. The event invites anyone interested in knitting, sewing, crocheting, or other handmade crafts to come together and be creative!

Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or trying something new for the first time, everyone is welcome—no experience necessary.

There will also be a casual swap. Bring along fabric, yarn, patterns, kits, or even a finished project to show and tell, and trade supplies, ideas, and inspiration with others.

The Mendery will also be open during the event. Bring clothing or textiles that need a little repair, and volunteers can help fix them—or show you how to do it yourself.

Minnesota Hunters Donate Record Number of Venison to Those in Need

Hunters donated nearly 14-thousand pounds of venison to food shelves and feeding programs last year in the state of Minnesota, a jump of more than 50 percent from 2024. Jennifer Stephes with the Minnesota Department of Agriculture said not everyone has the ability to hunt.

Last year’s donations were the highest total in a decade and well above the 8,900 pounds donated the previous year. The venison program which was established in 2007, reimburses licensed processors and requires strict food safety standards.

Marvin/Polaris Pucks with a Purpose this Friday

After taking almost a decade in between games, Marvin and Polaris employees will take to the ice to play their 2nd annual “Pucks with a Purpose” hockey game on Friday March 20th at the Gardens Arena. Marvin’s event organizer Kim Lawler explained how the event got started back up

Lawler spoke on who all will be participating in this event.

Lawler also spoke on how the communities use this event as a resource for local non-profits, with this year’s proceeds benefitting the Warroad and Roseau Food Pantries.

Marvin employee and former Warroad Girls Hockey player Hannah Corneliuson commented on who else is playing in the game that will be a familiar face.

Corneliuson talked about how great the opportunity is to put the skates back on at the Gardens Arena.

Marvin and Polaris will get this hockey rivalry game underway Friday March 20th at 5pm and 6:30 from the Gardens Arena.

Warroad Trapshooting Registration Closing Soon

Warroad Trapshooting registration is open now and closes on Friday March 20th. Brian Johnston, Head Coach of the Warroad Trap Club stopped by to tell us more about the club and what parents need to know about changes to week night shooting. 

Johnston also shared what the season looks like for them with a couple local tournaments and their big event in Alexandria coming up in June.

Minnesota FalconCam 2026 Goes Live

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has launched the 16th annual FalconCam livestream for 2026, now featuring sharper video and sound for the first time. The camera follows a pair of peregrine falcons as they prepare their nest, with eggs expected around late March. FalconCam gives viewers a close-up look at courtship, nesting, and chick rearing, while supporting conservation efforts that helped restore peregrine falcons in Minnesota after near-extinction. The livestream is available on the DNR website and YouTube.
