A new Warroad website is doing a soft-launch beginning today (Monday September 15th). Warroad Community Development Director Sarah Carling was a guest on Community Conversation last week and talked about what this website can mean for the City of Warroad.
She also shared her thoughts on what she hopes the website can do

The Anishinaabe Arts Initiative Fellowship will provide unfettered funding for one artist, culture bearer or creative individual, who is an enrolled tribal member or descendant, to fuel their creative and/or cultural work in Beltrami, Clearwater, Hubbard, Mahnomen, Lake of the Woods, Becker, Cass, Itasca, and Roseau counties in Minnesota. Only one $5,000 award will be granted.
The goal of the annual Region 2 Arts Council’s AAI Fellowship Program is to assist the region’s most talented indigenous artists, musicians, writers, culture bearers, filmmakers, dancers, theater artists, and crafts people in furthering and innovating their work by awarding substantial financial support to fund creative time and/or arts experiences that facilitate depth and advancement in their creative work. Application Deadline: November 1, 2025.

Warroad, MINN. – KQ92 and KRWB sat down with Warroad Mayor Tom Goldsmith this week to discuss construction progress, and the impact of infrastructure changes to railroad crossings in Warroad and its surrounding area.
Mayor Goldsmith apprised us of progress on MNDOT’s Warroad bridge project on Highway 11, then the City of Warroad’s water main project on Lake Street:
The Warroad Marina was the next item on Goldsmith’s list of infrastructure projects:
Goldsmith explained to us a railroad project that has been pending since 2016, creating “silent crossings” or “quiet zones” where trains would no longer sound their locomotive horns.
The Mayor spoke more on the collaboration of organizations that took place in regard to this project. If established, this change would span throughout Roseau County from the City of Warroad through Lake Township, attempting to improve quality of life for residents and visitors of the area.

Minneapolis, MINN. – In the past few days there have been four celebrities that have passed away. In the world of professional wrestling, Hulk Hogan passed away at the age of 71 of cardiac arrest. KQ92 and KRWB was able to get a conversation with former pro wrestler Greg Gagne. Greg Owens of KQ92/KRWB spoke with Gagne, who talked about Hogan and reflected on an early match in his career and the events that followed after that.
He also talked about the beginning of Hogan’s signature ripping of the t-shirt he wore at matches.
And the way he was able to generate crowd excitement when he was getting beaten during a match.
Among the numerous accomplishments in his wrestling career, Hogan was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005. Listen to the full interview with wrestling legend Greg Gagne and Greg Owens of KQ92/KRWB.

Warroad, MINN. This week, KQ92 & KRWB sat down with Debbie Aune to talk about an artist reception being held for herself and Betsy Saurdiff this week at Warroad River Place.
Aune let us know what visitors to the this event could expect to see at this artist reception:
When asked about the time and place, Aune explained that this reception would be held on Friday the 27th, from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM.
Aune also informed KQ92 & KRWB that she would be hosting a class at River Place in July on the 16th, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. More details can be found at River Place’s website on their event page.

Northwest Angle, MINN – During last week’s Lake of the Woods County board meeting, Joe Laurin, project coordinator of the Northwest Angle’s Northerly Park provided an update on the progress
Northerly Park comprises 160 acres of land owned by the county which includes Jim’s Corner which is an unstaffed U.S./Canada Border checkpoint. Laurin told KQ92 and KRWB what the tourists and locals can expect the park to offer.
Laurin explains that the financing for the estimated $2.5 million dollar project will come in the form of a three prong approach.
Laurin said the target date of completion for the project is three years.
Auditions will be next week for the production of “Warroad Community Potluck”, a presentation of Mixed Blood Theater, which is based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Mark Valdez is the Executive Director of Mixed Blood Theater.
Valdez was on the Warroad River Place segment on Wednesday and explained how “Warroad Community Potluck” got it’s start.
He also went on to say how the play will be cast.
Auditions for “Warroad Community Potluck” will be held June 12th thru the 14th. On the 12th, from 11am-12:30pm at the Warroad Public Library. On the 12th & 13th from 3:30-5:30pm at Icon Apartments, and from 6-8pm at the Warroad Folk School. On Saturday June 14th auditions will be held at Warroad River Place from 10am to 2pm.
A familiar landmark, Warroad’s first ever Holiday Station is scheduled for closure and demolition to be soon replaced by a new Circle K Station. Circle K District Manager Angie Brodshaug explains:
The new facility will have a much bigger footprint.
The new station has been in the works for about three of four years, notes Broadshaug. Customers can expect the same level of service in a much more accommodating store.
The current team will transition to the store across from the Marvin manufacturing facility in the interim. Construction should las 6-8 months with an expected completion date in the November/December time frame.
